The Nikaidos’ Fallmarks the third feature film for Iranian director Ida Panahandeh and her first film shot outside of Iran. In this film Panahandeh, who won a “Prix de l’Avenir” at Cannes, directs the acting talents of Masaya Kato (The Man in White, Shinjuku Incident), Kazuko Shirakawa (After Life) and Shizuka Ishibashi (The Tokyo Night Sky Is Always The Densest Shade of Blue).


Tenri City in Nara Prefecture is surrounded by mountains and lush nature and Tatsuya Nikaido (Kato) is a local magnate who has made every effort to develop the town. He runs a company which he took over from his father and lives with his daughter Yuko (Ishibashi) and sick mother (Shirakawa). A divorcee whose son is dead, Tatsuya is being pressured to save the family name and ancestral line by either remarrying and having a son or have his daughter marry a man who can take her family’s surname.
