Kim Ji-young, Born 1982is based on an international bestseller of the same name by the scriptwriter Cho Nam-joo which resonated strongly with countless South Korean women and opened up a fierce debate about gender equality in the country. Screenwriter Kim Do-young makes her debut as director and the film stars Jung Yu-mi (The Crucible, Train to Busan) in the title role and Gong Yoo (Train to Busan, The Age of Shadows).


Kim Ji-young (Jung) is an ordinary Korean woman in her 30s who is married to the man she loves. Despite the pressure of raising a baby girl, which has forced her to give up on many things, Ji-young believes she is content with her existence. However, her husband Dae-hyeon (Gong) notices that life’s struggles are affecting Ji-young harder than she realises and worried, he turns to a psychiatrist for help.
